PAX is the culmination of Matt’s three professional passions: B2B sales, entrepreneurship, and early stage investing.
With Blu Ventures, Matt has backed 70+ early-stage startups over 15 years of investing. Several big winners include AdLumin, ID.me, and Huntress Labs.
Matt’s background also includes managing a hedge fund for seven years (Commodity Pool Operator), exiting a telecommunications startup for $110M (Segovia), and humble beginnings as a bag-carrying salesman.
Matt resides in Darnestown, MD with his wife, enjoying gardening, entertaining, and global trips. They've raised four sons and eagerly await numerous grandchildren. He studied liberal arts at BYU.
As a co-founder of PAX, Elizabeth helped develop and now runs the B2B sales development program. She co-leads the screening and selection process, and works to connect PAX founders with follow-on investors in our network (a process known as PAX Plexus). Once in the PAX family, Elizabeth quickly becomes every founder’s best friend.
Elizabeth graduated with an Economics degree from BYU and started her career in consulting at Industrial Economics, helping clients such as EPA, DOI, and USACE with environmental matters.
Elizabeth and her husband are digital nomads–at the time of this bio, they are in Buenos Aires, Argentina, but will most likely be somewhere else by the time you read this.Home base for Elizabeth is Boston, MA, where she loves to paint, run, and explore delightful dessert spots.
Jack is the “ops guy” and an original co-founder of PAX. He is a wizard with “no code” applications and frequently spends late hours perfecting the PAX reporting platform on Bubble. Jack manages back-office operations and the tech stack, which helps PAX run efficiently and smoothly.
After graduating from University of Maryland with a degree in Environmental Science, Jack teamed up with Matt and Elizabeth to launch PAX, and notably spearheaded the ClimateTech focus. He has been involved in the selection and funding process of all 57 PAX deals.
Jack lives in Baltimore, MD, where he takes care of his ancient dog, Odin, who is several years too long in this world. He thrives in the outdoors, where he enjoys backpacking, camping, and whitewater kayaking.
Eric is the recruiting expert at PAX, responsible for unearthing the next promising startup. His outbound marketing expertise has earned Eric the self-proclaimed nickname “Mr. 50 Percent”, used only by him, in reference to his email open rates.
In addition to sourcing, Eric co-leads the screening and selection process. He combines qualitative and quantitative analysis of investment opportunities to present to the PAX team.
Prior to PAX, Eric led the kayaking program at Calleva Outdoors, where he honed his leadership skills and traveled the world in search of whitewater thrills. He finally settled down and joined PAX in 2021. Eric lives in Frederick, MD with his wife and daughter. He continues to kayak and play disc golf in his free time.
Jamie represents PAX from the tech hub of Salt Lake City, UT, where he moved to be in the mountains (Utah > Colorado). His primary responsibility is fundraising–both attracting new investors and delighting existing investors. He also sources pre-seed deals from the West Coast hubs of Salt Lake, Los Angeles, and the Bay Area.
Before joining PAX in 2022, Jamie studied Economics at BYU and managed a furniture retail store in Seattle, WA. He served a 2-year LDS mission in Orlando, FL.
In his free time, Jamie is an avid rock climber and snowboarder. On rest days, he enjoys amateur film photography, reading, and planning his next climbing trip.
